As a follow-up to my previous post on the First Wave of SG-1 action figures... pics of the SG-1 Second Wave action figures have surfaced, so here is what I've found so far! Pictures behind the cut...

It's kind of hard to tell much about the Sam one... except I'm pretty sure Sam has slightly bigger hips than *that*. I hope there's a variant of Sam without a hat.

Conversely, I think that's a pretty good job with Teal'c. Except for S8-onwards Teal'c-with-hair, which looks odd to me. But then, heck, he looked odd to me on the show, too... Teal'c in armor is pretty keen, though.

One group shot of the 4 main figs in the set seemed to show that yes, Sam and Teal'c are in proportion to each other. But the Thor figure is a little larger than the Asgard are on the show. In the shot of the figs, at least, Thor's head comes up to Sam's shoulder; too tall. Unless the "group shot" I've seen isn't a true group shot and is just the individual shots pasted together, and whoever did the photoshopping didn't make Thor small enough. *shrug*

I have to confess... I'm a little disappointed in the Thor figure. Not just in the relative size... this is nitpicky, but, Thor's eyes aren't BIG enough. What makes Thor adorable is his humongous blinky eyes. (Obviously, an action-figure's eyes can't be blinky, but...) Ah well.

For you SGA fans out there, the same company is supposed to be coming out with a line of SGA figures as well. But so far I haven't been able to turn up info or pics of them.

Obviously, an action-figure's eyes can't be blinky, but...

They could be!

As a child, I was a proud possessor of the Action Man (think UK GI Joe rip-off) with Eagle Swivel Eyes - you moved a little switch at the back of his head to get the eyes to move from side to side.

Decades later, Blinky-Eyes Thor should be well within the technical capabilities of the industry.

Okay, wait... was this a 7" figure, or a 12" figure? (The original GI Joe was 12" -- I had one, because I didn't really want Barbie *or* Ken...) Eagle Swivel Eyes just SOUNDS like the kind of feature a 12" doll would have (albeit, a fairly creepy feature...). Though I'd believe if it you said a 7" figure had it...

I hear you, that with advances in technology (lord knows action figures are a lot more sophisticated in sculpt these days), you'd think they could put Blinky-Eyes Action even into a 7" figure...

(Look, I'm still bummed that AFAIK, the in-scale Gate will neither light up, nor spin! C'mon!)

12", I'd guess. And not creepy so much as ... bizarre. Or very, very surprised.

But given the size of Thor's eyes relative to anyone else's, it should still work, dammit!

I dunno... I'm still going with "creepy". Wow.

I agree, though, that they *totally* should have been able to make Thor's eyes blinky, even at the 7" (or for him, 5") size. (I would have been okay with it, though, if they'd just sort of made them about twice the size they seem to be in that pic.)

Teal'c actually looks like Teal'c! Very impressive.

I know! It's almost freaky what a really good job they seem to have done with Teal'c. Because lord knows, as we've all discussed, both the Jack and the Daniel have... some issues. At least in the shots of bald!Teal'c above, not only are the *features* correct, but I get a *sense* of Teal'c. Whereas with Jack and Daniel, the discussion was more about how features can be fairly accurate and yet how a good sense of the character can still elude the final product...

The first two Teal'cs are terrific! The body looks good, too, not just the face, but the face is what they haven't been capturing (it's hard, I know), so it's really cool to see them nail one. Except, as you say, for the S8 Teal'c. CJ's face did change a bit over the years, and his makeup changed a lot, but I think I'd rather see Jaffa Armor Teal'c's face on a head with hair, or something. 'Cause it looks more like Teal'c.

Sam doesn't look at all like Sam, and yeah, about the hips. With the face, I'll hope it's just the angle or lighting of the picture (there's always hope!).

I am betting that the makers of the figures didn't get into the job deeply enough to think about making different head sculpts for, say, Daniel or Teal'c based on the slight differences in the actors between S1 and S8. I think the most they did was take a basic sculpt, and mess around with the head-coverings (in Jack's case -- hats, hair; in Daniel's, hair versus bandana; in Teal'c's, adding the hair).

Which is why the S8 Teal'c looks a bit to me like he has something unfortunate perched on his head. (But, to be snarky -- that's how Teal'c sort of looks to me on the show, too.)

With Sam, yeah, I'm withholding judgement until I see better pics or an actual figure. That is a bad angle for that shot. I'm not sure that it doesn't look *at all* like Sam... but I'm not sure it's that great a Sam, either. We'll see!

Who *doesn't* want huge blinky-eyes Thor?

(One of the things that cracks me up about SG is... when I first got into the show, I was sort of aware they were doing the Roswell Greys, and my snap judgement was, oh, how cheesy is that? And it turns out that I just LOVE it to death. I never expected to find them so CUTE. I think a lot of it is down to how much personality Thor has, of course.)

thank you for posting this. :) i'm guessing i've got some shopping in my future regardless of how strange thor's feet look.

I think that Thor's feet may be a bit bigger than the Asgard feet on the show (not that you see Asgard feet all that much), to make the figure able to stand on its own.

Man, I can't wait for all of them to come out! I just love this stuff... :)

ah, thor might have something to say about being rigged out in platypus feet. *veg*

i'm very excited about these. i am *so* bringing a set into work. as for the continued mantra of "i will not pose jack and daniel on my desk at work"...all bets are off. because i'm not going to be able to resist pushing it a bit to see if anyone notices.

ack, what am i saying/thinking. just typing it makes me realize i'll never go through with it. now, if someone were to come into my office and pose them for me i'd just have to laugh. ;)
