Calling all Jack fans...

Hi all, yes, long time, no see. Someday I will be caught up. But not today.

Anyway... I'm trying to help out raqs, and the brief is: recommend Hot!Jack scenes from the show. Not slashy ones, but scenes with Jack that make you go "guh".

My problem is, my first answer to that ("all of them") isn't helpful, and otherwise, when put on the spot, (much like what happens when you're in a video store and you're trying to remember what movies you keep meaning to rent but you can't think of ANY of them), all ability to think of such scenes flees my brain.

I'm tryin'. I'm going away to try to jog my memory. But I figured it might also help if I asked around.

The first bit that comes to mind is pretty much all of Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is, like, a paean to the hotness that is Jack.

Oh yeah. Totally.

Hmm. And even early on, as they've first arrived, there are some shots of him as he's walking along with Harry that are very exemplary of a certain look of his that I think is Totally Hot: the tac-vest over the t-shirt, along with the bb-cap, and the shades. Mmm.

And the rest is the best scruffy-Jack ever. Cause unlike "The Fifth Man", he's not wearing the Stupid Hat.

Coming through the gate in Secrets and tossing the knife at Her-u-er(sp?)

Unbuckling the knife from his belt in Emancipation.

Lying on the ice in Solitudes.

Waving his little wave to Dr. Lee et all with his shit eating smile in Prodigy.

Walking away from Daniel on the ground in Menace.

Oh, and that silly curled up sleeping pose in Fragile Balance? Yeah.

Sight Unseen, the scene where he is at the gas station, seeing one of those other dimensional bugs, leaning across the hood of his car with his gun.

Jack in pain in the ice in Solitudes.

Evil Jack in Shadow Play, with the sunglasses. Even if that not him.

Jack smiling at the beginning of Tangent, when Teal'c is flying the deathgliderflying thing over their heads.

And Allegiance, when he tells everyone to get down and starts firing the reallybiggun.

Firemen Jack in Changeling.

The beginning of Proving Ground when he is all DrillSeargant Jack, and later, the scene when he decides to go out and dial out. Also, when he orders Sam to blow up the alien ship in "Scorched Earth" even though he knows Daniel is on board.
Jack having to make tough decisions like that gets me every time.

As does Jack in his dress blues: for example in Secrets and in Between Two Fires.

Jack in Cold Lazarus, because he looks so hot with his sunglasses against the yellow and blue.

When he smashes the car window in Fire and Water.

When he drinks the beer and pretend not to love Daniel anymore in Shades of Grey.

TinMen Jack exchanging one last look with Daniel in Doppelganger.

Jack leaning across the desk, flirting with the receptionist in Space Race.

Jack with leather jacket and sunglasses in LEarning Curve, the scene where he takes the child to the playground.

Jack on his rescue mission, finding Daniel and shooting the bad guys in Evolution.

Jack all in black in Prometheus, outside the place where they are building the x-303.

Jack arguing with Daniel in New Order. And Jack in the chopper. And Jack out of the chopper, in the snow.

Jack...you know, feel free to stop me any time now. ;-)

Apr. 29th, 2005 11:09 am (UTC)
Oooh, Jack on Prometheus reminded me of Jack in Prometheus Unbound sitting in the chair after and looking all stern and such in BLACK (HOT) while Carter and Jonas grump around him.

I know it is Very Wrong Of Me, but that bit in Shades of Grey where he pulls a gun on Kinsey. And the dress blues in Fair Game. And all of Paradise Lost.

Oh, and the locker-room scene in Broca Divide, but I dunno how much of that is Generic Jack Hotness and how much is Teh Shippeh Sex.

Apr. 29th, 2005 11:31 am (UTC)
No no -- that scene in "Chain Reaction" with Kinsey is SO DAMN HOT. Seriously. The whole thing. Despite the fact that his civvies in that ep are not the best ever.

And the locker room bit in Broca Divide really is a whole lot of Jack Hotness. It's really *not* just the shippiness. It's watching Jack have his shirt ripped open. Natch. Plus she went and considerately touseled his hair for us. That's *always* good.

Shadow Play (the S6 episode on Kelowna with Dean Stockwell)- at the end where Jack comes to tell Jonas that SG-1 is leaving. Jack's in the back of the room listening to Jonas's disillusionment rant, and he's just so still and sad and hard and unforgiving and understanding all at the same time. Guh! (I have a frame grab of this on my screensaver.)

Ditto the end of Unnatural Selection, the fade to black on Jack's grim, grim expression.

And really hot for me - the end of The Other Side, when Jack's on the ramp in the gateroom. He's in full gear - always hot! - and his expression after he tells Hammond "Don't be" just makes me shiver.

And I love the (too few!) moments we get to see NotSoNice!Jack: in Entity, when he threatens the entity in Sam ("You've read my file, think again.") and pretending to believe Teal'c is no longer serving Apophis at the beginning of Threshold.

I think just about any view of Jack in the tac-vest and gear is hot. I seem to have a thing for the lacings of the vest and how the vest accents his back and butt. And the fingerless gloves. I miss the fingerless gloves! It was the one detail they forgot in the Moebius AU version of Children of the Gods.

Jack being deadly and competent: somehow, he always looks hot.

This is the second comment making me think that I'm gonna have to rewatch Shadow Play...

And yes! Threatening the Entity. For me what sticks out is the bit where Daniel's talking to it and starts to reassure it that they didn't realize the MALP was hurting it, and they promised never to send a MALP again... and Jack just butts in with, "No. We'll send dozens. Hundreds. Over and over. Unless you leave her." GUH.

I think just about any view of Jack in the tac-vest and gear is hot. I seem to have a thing for the lacings of the vest and how the vest accents his back and butt.

YES! Oh my god, yes. One of my favorite little things is whenever he's in full gear like that, and we get a shot of him from behind, especially if it's 3/4ers, so that you can see the way the tac-vest fits and accentuates the way his back curves down and meets his butt. I cannot say HOW VERY HOT I find that. I've been trying to think of what I would say were quintessential shots of that, because in any collection of Hot!Jack pics that I was compiling, one of those shots would have to be in there.

I was watching some ep recently and it had such a shot in it, and I remember thinking, "Oooh, that's a good example of that".... and now I can't think what ep it must have been. Darnit.

And the fingerless gloves. I miss the fingerless gloves!

Wordity-word. I've also been trying to think of a really good example of those. Hmm. I think there are a bunch of good examples in "One False Step". There's that scene where he's sitting on the ground leaning up against one of the huts, waiting for Daniel to come out; and another scene close to that where he and Daniel are sitting together on the ground. I think that *might* involve the all-important wearing fingerless gloves and drumming the fingers on his MP5... mmm!

I think they're also featured in "Tok'ra" Part One, which also therefore has that lovely bit where the team is first surrounded by the Tok'ra, and Jack instantly drops to one knee with his gun pointed, and then he proceeds to be a smart-ass. Love that.

Why did the fingerless gloves go away? I think I might have read someone commenting once that they weren't USAF regulation and normally he wouldn't have been allowed to wear them. (The baseball caps actually *are* a permitted headgear variation.) I've always assumed that he wore the fingerless gloves in the early years because RDA seems more cold-blooded than the others and he tends to dress a bit warmer than they do in all circumstances, but... I dunno. I don't *actually* know why he was wearing them. And it seemed to me that they persisted for too long into the series, for them to have been a mistake that was only caught after, what? Third season?

(Checking) Yes. They go away during third season. But that doesn't mean anything, I guess. Could have taken someone that long to point out the costuming mistake. (Things like non-regulation hair lengths seem to get pointed out more quickly.) I really wish, though, that they'd just said "screw it" and kept them. I don't think the tac-vests are 100% accurate either (near, but not quite).

It was the one detail they forgot in the Moebius AU version of Children of the Gods.

I wasn't sure that was a mistake or not. Because I didn't think the Moebius AU was doing COTG, precisely... there was much discussion of this, but I *think* that we were meant to conclude that we joined the Moebius AU contemporaneously with "now" (i.e. 2004/2005; rather than 1997).

Still. You're right. Giving AU!Jack in that ep the fingerless gloves would have been a sweet little touch.

Yes. Am leaving a comment in my own LJ. Whatever. I'll forget this if I don't, and raqs will see it later.

Okay... in "Revelations" (last ep of S6... I know, impossible to keep all the single-word "Re-" eps straight), there's a bit where Jack and Teal'c have escaped from the cell and are roaming through the halls, and Jack does this amazing tae-kwan-do stuff to take out some Jaffa... and that is hot enough, right... but then he picks up a staff weapon. Here comes the other hot bit (because the first one is him taking out the Jaffa with the high kung-fu kicks, right?)...

Sam directs him and Teal'c to a panel of crystals that they have to destroy. If memory serves, they open the panel, and Jack leans on the staff weapon for a moment as they both sort of look down at it (and that's very hot, because his pose... IIRC it's like a cross between John Wayne and some Roman statue... gah), and then he does this nifty move where he swings the staff up and around and just shoots the whole panel. Very Jack.

Oh, oh, I've got another one--Lost City, when he heals Bra'tac. Jack-concentrating-to-access-Ancient-powers is very hot. (The nostril-cam scene of him in the chair, not so much.)
Apr. 30th, 2005 10:41 am (UTC)
Oh man, yes. That's a good one, and I keep forgetting it because the ultimately-hot thing from those eps that really sticks in my mind (aside from when he prevents Daniel from using the head-sucker thing and then goes to do it himself) is that moment between him and Teal'c. Sweet. Deeply lovely. And SO HOT.

But yes; in my fixation on that scene, musn't forget the healing-Bra'tac thing. :)

Red Sky! No, really, I mean it. When he strides over and grabs lame-ass alien dude and sticks a gun in his face. HOT.

I like him flinging Hathor into the void in Into the Fire. I think he looks fetching in the white outfit with the rumply hair.

And The Devil You Know. He gets injured, he's pissed, he's tortured, he's dirty and sweaty. What's not hot about that? :-)

And Need, when he's working in the mines and gets suspicious/pissed at kneelbeforeyourcurlyhairedgod Daniel.

What about Hundred Days? The open-necked shirt is certainly nice.

OffTopic: do you know if raqs ever got the LoC I emailed her this week? I hope she did, 'cause I enjoyed the heck out of that story ("Two Sides of the Coin").
Apr. 30th, 2005 10:55 am (UTC)
Can't argue with most of these. :)

Except for "Need"... that's a funny case, for me. How to put it... I find the *situations* and the *actions* and *reactions* in that ep hot... but not Jack physically, except in the "woobie!" sense. But, I mean, in terms of Dirty!Scruffy!Jack, it's not my favorite. Something about the way they chose to do the make-up for grimy, dirty Jack... for me, it almost *masked* his features and expressions, rather than accentuating them. In comparison, I'd offer the Dirty!Scruffy!Jacks that we got in "The Devil You Know", "The Fifth Man", and "Paradise Lost". Even with the aforementioned Stupid Hat problem, if I want to enjoy Dirty!Scruffy!Jack, I'd pop in "The Fifth Man" before I'd pop in "Need".

She did; I just prodded her. :) She's behind on her email answering generally. (Like I am, hideously. I owe you *such* an email. eek.) Am glad you liked it. :) I have such a soft spot for it, myself. (And yes, one of the things on my to-do list is clearing my decks and getting to sit down and savor your Katsumoto/Ujio fic, and then write to you. I've been looking forward to that ever since I got back from my trip and saw it. Mmm!)

in one false step when he's arguing with daniel. and when they are sitting next to each other in the infirmery saying "what?" etc.

how about when he's confronting fake-hammond in the fake-briefing room during 'gamekeeper'. and when he's walking down the fake-sgc-hallway talking with daniel explaining why they're going through the fake-gate?

actually...he's hot in every second of gamekeeper. *bg*
Apr. 30th, 2005 10:39 am (UTC)
*nods* Gamekeeper was not a bad ep for hotness... except for the amount of time he spent wearing the knitted cap. But that's okay, that wasn't *that* much of the ep.

holy buckets - where to begin?

okay, any scene with hand signals with a special nod to "touchstone" where we got the backwards cap *and* hand signals.
asassin!jack in "smoke and mirrors" - i also enjoyed shackled!jack in that ep but i think that's a personal thing... :)
enraged!jack tossing down his cap before attacking the saboteur guy in "red sky"
chopping wood with sunglasses in "100 days"
exuberant!jack at the beginning of "tangent" - "Oh, it flies, yes, Sir!"
fireman!jack wearing clothes that fit in "changeling"
and of course thousands more i'm not thinking of right now.
Apr. 30th, 2005 10:38 am (UTC)
It's really, really hard to pick and choose, isn't it?
Apr. 30th, 2005 04:11 am (UTC)
I think I already saw this mentioned, but I think "The Devil You Know" is my favorite. I don't really know why. I think it's a combination of his scruffiness and the lighting. Very nice.
Apr. 30th, 2005 10:37 am (UTC)
There are a bunch of little scenes in which Jack gets lit by warm, dim light, and the results are *always* spectacular. (I'm also thinking of "Threshold", and I think in "Crossroads" where he and the others go in to spot Teal'c while he tries his kel'no'reem trick; and beside the fire in "1969"; etc.)
