VOD: Steve Irwin

Aw, man...

Thanks to folks on my flist for a heads-up (erskine and okojosan):

Steve Irwin, better known as the "Crocodile Hunter" guy from the Discovery Channel/Animal Planet show, dead at age 44. Killed this morning (Australia time, obviously) while filming an underwater documentary (with Philippe Cousteau) off the Great Barrier Reef. Sources say he was killed by a stingray barb through the chest. Apparently this was a completely freak accident. (He was not trying to interact with the stingray, he didn't know it was there and swam too close to its hiding place.)

Way too young, dammit. I watched a lot of his show, back in the day, and liked his approach, crazy though it was. Considering the kind of stuff he would do, I guess this isn't that surprising. But still, god, what a massive bummer.
